Following continued alarming reports of negligence and abuse at homes for developmentally disabled residents, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, committed to introduce legislation to address this issue. The second investigation released today by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health and Human Services outlined issues in Massachusetts similar to those found in the OIG investigation into Connecticut, which was released on May 24, 2016

U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representatives John Larson (D-1), Rosa DeLauro (D-3), and Jim Himes (D-4) applauded $1,224,000 in U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding for housing authorities in Hartford, Norwalk, and New Haven. This funding, under HUD’s Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency – Service Coordinators program (ROSS-SC), will be used to hire or retain “service coordinators” to help residents achieve economic and housing independence by connecting residents with career and educational opportunities.

U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), and Congressman Jim Himes (D-4) today announced $2.4 million in grant funds awarded to The WorkPlace of Bridgeport, which will be used towards improving opportunities for adults and youths who have been involved in the criminal justice system. The WorkPlace is an organization that is geared towards strengthening and developing the Connecticut workforce.

Attorney Involved in Scheme that Targeted Distressed Homeowners Sentenced to 30...

Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that BRADFORD BARNEYS, 51, of Odenton, Maryland, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to 30 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervise release, for conspiring with Timothy W. Burke in a long-running fraud scheme that targeted distressed homeowners throughout Connecticut. BARNEYS was an attorney licensed to practice in Connecticut and has an office in Bridgeport.
