Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today visited Tilcon Connecticut in to call for the creation of a National Infrastructure Bank. DeLauro has introduced legislation to create such a program, which would help finance the nation’s most critical infrastructure projects, while also creating good paying jobs repairing roads, building bridges, and creating safer and more modern water projects.

Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5), a member of the New Democrat Coalition and the U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, sent a letter to Speaker Boehner and Leader Pelosi calling for a permanent solution to funding the Highway Trust Fund. The letter was also endorsed by New Democrat Coalition Members Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), Ed Perlmutter (CO-7), John Carney (DE At Large District), and John Delaney (MD-6).

They began the day at Coltsville for an overview of the eroding dykes and levies along the Connecticut River before traveling to Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford to address access and egress to the expanding campus. Finally, they concluded at Union Station for a brief discussion and press conference on high speed rail and long-term infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) urged his colleagues on the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee (EPW) to ensure there is a long-term, robust commitment to infrastructure investment in the surface transportation bill, which the committee is planning to mark up on Wednesday. In a letter to Chairman James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Ranking Member Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Blumenthal cited the dire state of America’s crumbling roads and bridges and the urgent need to prioritize long-term infrastructure funding

The Building and Renewing Infrastructure for Development and Growth in Employment (BRIDGE) Act helps to address the nation’s alarming investment shortfall in maintaining and improving our transportation network, water and wastewater systems and energy infrastructure

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that, in the first installment of several rounds of funding, seven towns in Connecticut are being awarded grants under the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) to assist with infrastructure improvement projects.
