DeLauro Announces $720,000 in Housing Aid to New Haven

-

Washington, DC – May 13, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) announced today the award of a $720,000 grant to the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven to help public housing residents become more financially self-sufficient. The funds are part of almost $28 million awarded nationwide by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of the Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) program.

This grant will be used to employ a service coordinator, who will work directly with the residents of public housing to help connect them with job training, education, and placement programs. For those residents who are elderly or disabled, this service coordinator can help to find services that will enable them to maintain an independent lifestyle.

“These funds are essential in providing help to those in our community who need it the most, and the residents of New Haven will benefit greatly from them. In these tough economic times, it is essential that we invest in individuals and their potential—and these funds do just that. By providing individuals with the skills they need to be successful, we will strengthen our workforce and our community, and I look forward to seeing the results from this award.”
