Local and state police officers eligible for discounted mortgage rate if they purchase first home in Norwich

ROCKY HILL, CT – August 9, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The Council of the City of Norwich voted to participate in a special Police Homeownership Program offered by the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA). The program will offer a discounted mortgage rate to Norwich police officers who purchase a home in Norwich, as part of a community policing program. Twenty-three towns statewide now participate in the Police Homeownership program, which is open to local police and state police officers who are either first-time homebuyers or have not owned a home in the last three years. CHFA also offers special programs for teachers, which is available to teachers who teach and will live in Norwich, and for military personnel.

According to City Manager Alan H. Bergren, “Norwich employees play a significant role in making this City a great place to live, work and play. This is an excellent opportunity to connect employees to the community in which they work.” The impetus for participating in this program stems from an employee survey completed earlier in the year.

“CHFA is proud to support community policing programs. Offering a discounted mortgage rate to police officers purchasing a home in the town where they work is a simple incentive that has long-term benefits for the community,” said Eric Chatman, president and executive director of the CHFA.
