HUD Allocates More Than $11 Million to Connecticut Communities Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
March 02, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) announced that Connecticut towns and cities will receive more than $11 million for the construction and maintenance of decent affordable housing, the creation of better economic opportunities for residents, and other community development efforts. The State of Connecticut will have more than $3.6 million of these funds to distribute to additional smaller and mid-size cities and towns. The funds are provided through Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which were allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“These funds will go straight to the communities caught in the eye of this economic hurricane,” said Dodd. “Providing federal resources to Connecticut communities gives local officials the tools they need to combat the recession. I applaud the Department of Housing and Urban Development for taking quick steps to distribute the money we provided in the economic recovery package to states and cities, and I urge the Governor to distribute the state’s allocation as soon as possible.”
