WASHINGTON, DC – June 28, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) announced today a $299,670 grant for the WorkPlace, Inc. in Bridgeport. The funding will be used to provide homeless veterans with job training and other support services. This is the ninth consecutive year that the WorkPlace has received this grant.
“As our veterans return from serving our country abroad, they are often faced with the difficult task of finding new jobs in the civilian workforce,” said Himes. “This grant will provide the job training and support to help them complete their transition. Though we can never truly pay them back for their sacrifice, we can do more to help them reestablish their lives here at home.”
Funding was awarded through the Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, which provides grants to help homeless veterans find and retain gainful employment. Grants are awarded to fund job training and job placement, as well as support services including providing clothing, peer coaching, temporary or permanent housing referral, and counseling.
“We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Labor for this opportunity to focus on the critically important task of helping veterans adjust to the civilian workforce, said Joe Carbone, President and CEO of The WorkPlace. “The grant enables us to offer a comprehensive suite of services to Veterans. We look forward to continued collaboration with our partners to provide training and support services that will help our Veterans to enter the labor force. We appreciate the continued support that Congressman Jim Himes has shown for our region’s veterans.”
