Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $15.7 Million for Connecticut Transportation and Housing Initiatives
September 18, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) announced that Connecticut projects will receive more than $15.7 million as part of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill passed by the Senate today. The bill will support a variety of transportation- and housing-related projects across Connecticut, including $4 million for the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Rail Line.
“This important funding will support vital initiatives across our state, from supporting the Tri-City Corridor Rail Line to preventing home foreclosures,” said Dodd, the chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over public transportation and housing. “The programs included in this legislation will create jobs and improve the quality of life for countless Connecticut residents.”
“We must ensure that Connecticut’s most vulnerable residents have adequate housing and make our state’s transportation infrastructure a top priority,” said Lieberman. “The projects funded in this appropriations bill will not only help accomplish those goals, but will also boost the economy in Connecticut and create much needed jobs.”
The following towns and projects will be funded through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill:
City of Bridgeport
- 2.5 million for the Bridgeport Intermodal Center
ConnDOT/West Haven
- $1 million for the development of a West Haven Rail Passenger Station
ConnDOT
- $4 million for the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Rail Line
Town of Enfield
- $1 million for the Thompsonville Intermodal Transportation Center
North End Action, Middletown, CT
- $200,000 for foreclosure prevention assistance programs
Southeastern Connecticut Housing Alliance, Norwich, CT
- $200,000 for programs to increase affordable housing
City of Stamford
- $4.5 million for Phase II of the Stamford Urban Transitway
- $500,000 for the expansion of bus service in Harbor Point
- $300,000 for foreclosure prevention assistance programs (to the Urban League of Southern Connecticut
City of Waterbury
- $1 million for the Naugatuck River Greenway
- $500,000 for economic redevelopment of Brownfields and blighted properties
