Crisco, Representative Klarides Say State Funds Will Help Woodbridge Homeowners Where Ground Shifted Near West River

-

December 9, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) and Rep. Themis Klarides (R-Derby) today announced the imminent release of state funding to assist affected Woodbridge homeowners near the West River, where shifting ground, settling, and subsidence has caused property damage.

A total of $2 million will underwrite a fund from which eligible homeowners might address the matter. The item is included on the agenda for Friday’s meeting of the State Bond Commission; the lawmakers said they expect the item to receive final approval at that time.

“For several years now we’ve seen evidence and heard heart wrenching stories of cracked foundations, split walls, and broken dreams from Woodbridge residents who own houses in the immediate vicinity of the West River,” Senator Crisco said. “The General Assembly had previously authorized funding to try and provide relief for these homeowners; I’m delighted the governor has now given the final go-ahead for this remediation project.”

“I’m grateful for the governor’s favorable consideration, considering these residents did nothing to warrant or incur this very serious problem,” Senator Crisco added.

The grant program will be administered by the state Department of Economic and Community Development, the lawmakers said.

“This state grant to Woodbridge residents in the West River area provides much needed aid to homeowners,” Rep. Klarides said. “It will give them a chance to recover property damages and improve their quality of life. I’m glad to hear the residents of our districts will finally see resolution on this issue.”
