NEW AND COMMUNITY ADVISORY
April 15, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The City of Hartford, Office of Human Relations will host the 3rd Annual Fair Housing Month celebration. This year’s theme is “Knowledge is the Key.” The event takes place on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Hartford Public Library, Seminar Room 2nd floor, located at 500 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06103
2010 marks the 42nd Anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act. The landmark civil rights legislation—also known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act—was enacted April 11, 1968. Each April, our City honors the occasion by rededicating itself to equal housing opportunities for all.
Fair Housing Act protects the right of every individual/family to live in the home of their dreams, in the neighborhood of their choice, and prohibits discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, elderliness, and family status.
Discrimination is not always as obvious. Ignorance of the law is not a defense for housing providers such as property mangers, landlords, real estate agents, banks, insurance companies, mortgage lenders, developers, and other housing professionals.
Please join us in learning and sharing fair housing knowledge. Knowledge is the Key. Fair Housing, it’s not an option, it’s the law!
