At Home for Homeless Veterans, Blumenthal to Announce New Bill To Combat Veteran Homelessness

At 1 p.m. Friday, July 31 at Harkness House for homeless veterans in New Haven, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) will announce new legislation to combat veteran homelessness. The Veteran Housing Stability Act of 2015 would modernize and strengthen existing Department of Veterans Affairs’ housing programs for homeless and at-risk veterans—increasing access to safe, affordable and permanent housing options

CHFA Bond Sale Oversubscribed

The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) successfully sold $116 million of the 2015 Subseries C-1 and C-2 fixed-rate bonds on Wednesday, July 22. CHFA received over $266 million of orders for the bonds, proceeds from the sale of the bonds will be used to finance the Authority’s single-family mortgage program. The remaining $45 million in variable-rate bonds, for a total issue of $161 million in bonds, will be sold by the August 6, 2015 closing.

the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) and the Connecticut Housing Coalition, a NLIHC state partnerouH, released the findings of a state-wide public opinion poll that measured Connecticut registered voter support for changing the mortgage interest deduction, addressing homelessness, and creating more affordable housing. A majority of registered Connecticut voters surveyed expressed support for increasing federal funding for affordable housing to address homelessness; about half stated that Connecticut has not developed an adequate range of housing choices to meet the needs of all people in the state.
