Senate Majority Leader: Democrats’ Home Energy Assistance Web Page Can Help Families Save This Winter

Web site provides one-stop shop for families seeking help with heating expenses, furnace upgrades and home weatherization

Hartford, CT - November 16, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — State Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney (D-New Haven) announced today that the Senate Democrats have released an update to their home-heating assistance Web page to help provide Connecticut families with a convenient location on the Web for information on a wide variety of home-heating assistance programs. The Web page may be found at www.senatedems.ct.gov/Energy.

Content available at the site includes information on the state Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) and the Contingency Heating Assistance Program (CHAP), both administered by the state Department of Social Services. Information is also available on the charitable organization Operation Fuel, which helps provide energy assistance to income-eligible residents across the state.

“The recession will make it very difficult for many families to keep the heat on this winter,” said Senator Looney. “Help is available and we want to make sure people know how to access it. The Web page is also a good resource for families who are simply looking for energy efficient ways to heat their home.”

For families interested in replacing a current boiler or furnace with a newer, more efficient model, the site offers assistance through the state’s Furnace and Boiler Replacement Rebate Program, and low or no interest loans through the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund’s Energy Conservation Loan Program.

Customers of Connecticut Light & Power and the United Illuminating Co. will also find resources to help reduce energy bills, provide assistance with home weatherization and to conduct energy audits to help one’s home better retain heat.
