U.S. HUD Funding To Help Public Housing Residents Find Jobs And Educational Opportunities

HARTFORD – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representatives John Larson (D-1), Rosa DeLauro (D-3), and Jim Himes (D-4) applauded $1,224,000 in U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding for housing authorities in Hartford, Norwalk, and New Haven. This funding, under HUD’s Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency – Service Coordinators program (ROSS-SC), will be used to hire or retain “service coordinators” to help residents achieve economic and housing independence by connecting residents with career and educational opportunities.

“Self-sufficiency and economic independence are essential for enhancing quality of life,” said Murphy, Blumenthal, DeLauro, Larson, and Himes. “We applaud HUD for making this critical investment, which will help revitalize our neighborhoods and equip public housing residents with the tools needed to seek meaningful employment and educational opportunities to help build a better, brighter future.”

HUD’s Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency—Service Coordinatorsprogram aims to encourage local, innovative strategies that link public housing assistance with public and private resources to enable participating families to increase earned income; reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance; and make progress toward achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.
