DeLauro Announces Release of Home Heating Assistance Funds

NEW HAVEN, CT – November 5, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today announced Connecticut is receiving $67.584 million from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP helps low income households pay their energy bills and is particularly crucial as we move in to the winter. DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Health and Human Services, which administers LIHEAP.

“I am pleased to announce federal funding for this absolutely critical program, which will help alleviate some of the financial strain many Connecticut families feel as they face this winter’s heating bills. Heating costs for natural gas, propane and electricity are expected to increase this winter, yet due to the continuing budget impasse and the deeply harmful sequestration cuts, current LIHEAP funding is not sufficient to support Connecticut families. As Congress continues to debate our country’s budget challenges, we need to come to a solution that will allow us to increase funding for programs like LIHEAP. These funds go a long way towards preserving the health and well-being of households that include some of our most vulnerable citizens.”
