“These grants will help the people of Waterbury revitalize their neighborhoods and transform the city for the better,” said DeLauro. “Ensuring Connecticut families have access to affordable housing is the foundation we all need to stay safe, happy and productive. This critical funding will go a long way towards making, and keeping, that a reality for Waterbury families. I look forward to seeing its positive impact.”

“These grants will help improve safety, housing affordability, and opportunity for Waterbury families,” Esty said. “Affordable housing is a critical support for many families who are working hard to achieve the American dream and others who just need a little help getting back on their feet. I thank the Department of Housing and Urban Development for investing in the well-being of Waterbury families as well as in the long-term prosperity and vitality of this strong community.”

The grants are as follows:

• $1,996,547 from the Community Development Block Grants program, which provides money to state and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

• $709,824 from the HOME program, which helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.

• $137,010 from the Emergency Shelter Grants program, which provides annual grants to State, local, and private entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.
