Crisco Re-Appointed to Co-Chair Insurance and Real Estate Committee

January 4, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) has been re-appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) to serve as Senate Chair of the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee. According to legislative documents, “the Insurance and Real Estate Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to insurance law and real estate law,” and is charged with oversight of the state Department of Insurance.

Senator Crisco will begin his tenth term in the General Assembly on Wednesday; this will be his fourth term at the helm of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee.

“I’m grateful to Senator Williams for his continuing faith in my ability to deliver sound policy initiatives and legislation for the people of Connecticut with regard to the insurance industry and real estate matters,” Senator Crisco said. “I’m very proud of my committee’s track record over the past few years, for example with improved policies to help those with breast cancer, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease. I look forward to continuing my work on these issues.”

Senator Crisco said Connecticut is perched at a particularly important crossroads as the next term for the General Assembly begins.

“Two recent and very significant changes will imminently affect Connecticut residents in terms of health care coverage: at the state level our Sustinet program, meant to streamline healthcare delivery and its financing, will require administration of those changes. Likewise, new federal healthcare policies will likely warrant revisions of state law in areas with joint jurisdiction,” Senator Crisco said. “With so many imminent changes in such challenging times, this is both an exciting and critically important time to be working in this policy area.”

“I’m also looking forward to welcoming a new committee co-chairman, Representative Robert Megna, and having his input on all matters regarding the insurance and real estate industries,” Senator Crisco added.

In addition to his ongoing responsibility for the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, Senator Crisco was re-appointed vice-chair of both the Banking Committee and the Commerce Committee. Senator Crisco will also be the Ranking Member of the Internship Committee and will continue serving on the Legislative Management Committee.
