Himes Announces $20 Million in Recovery Funds for Conn. Clean Water Programs
Washington, DC - May 20, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) today announced nearly $20 million in funding from the Recovery Act for water quality programs in Connecticut. The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the state of Connecticut two grants that will create jobs and invest in finance green infrastructure, storm water management, and low-impact development.
“Investment in environmentally-friendly infrastructure creates jobs and provides long-term public health and economic benefits,” said Congressman Himes,” said Congressman Himes. “The Recovery Act is at work in Connecticut investing in smart, sustainable growth.”
The EPA announced $19,500,000 for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. This funding will allow Connecticut to capitalize its revolving loan fund for the financing for the construction of drinking water facilities, green infrastructure, program administration, and drinking water related activities.
A second award gives the state of Connecticut $485,000 for Water Quality Management Planning. This funding may be used for storm water management planning and incorporation of low impact development practices. Additionally, 40% of this grant will be distributed to regional planning organizations to develop and revise their watershed base plans.
